I bought the book before seeing the tour in Philly. The book is very well done, and very good representation of the tour. Beautiful photographs, plus good rich text around the history of the 18th dynasty.Other reviews talk about the tour, which isn't really what the book is about. The tour was rather crowded, and I was somewhat disappointed that all the objects were small, and no Tut sarcophagus. Very little explanation of the layout, so my son was complaining about the lack of Tut objects; they included many from the 18th dynasty.
I recommend the official DVD, its great; bought it at the show.

Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs Zahi Hawass Kenneth Garrett 9780792238737 Books Reviews
I dragged my husband to Chicago to see the exhibit at the Field Museum last July and I have to say for the price we paid I was a little disappointed. We weren't able to take any pictures of anything at all and there were so many people in the rooms at one time it was hard to get a good look at anything. Then when we got to the gift shop at the end of the exhibit this book was a ginormous $50!
After paying what we did to get into the exhibit itself, I just couldn't justify paying that much for the book. Needless to say, when I discovered it on for half that price I was ecstatic!! It is a wonderful book. Beautiful pictures as only National Geographic can give and it is very easy to read and informative.
I bought the "Full Fledged" book at the Tut exhibit because I didn't know that this one was available. All I got for another $15-$20 was a disc of the audio tour. It doesn't help much when you have left the exhibit. Other than the disc, the books are identical.
I bought this for my son who went with us, he was very pleased and I was even more pleased at the price. Plus, I didn't have to lug it around NYC for hours after buying it.
I went to see the King Tut exhibit at De young last month and was tempted to purchase the exhibit catalog plus DVD (which was $49.99). Good thing is that I typically check before my purchase for price check and wanted to do the same. I bought this for a little over $12 including shipping. I am not sure if this is the exact copy they sell at the De Young Museum store and this copy I received did not come with the DVD. However, I am still very happy for the purchase (great value).
Beautiful book! I love history, and reading about such an ancient person was great!
I bought this book for my son and myself before we went to the exhibit in San Francisco. My son is developmentaly disabled, so I knew we'd have to make it through the exhibit quickly. It was a godsend to not have to stop at every artifact from the exhibit to read the description, we were able to view the pieces we were longing to see without having to spend too much time in a crowd, which makes him anxious. It was awesome to walk into a gallery and have him shout "look, Mom! It's the ceremony crook and flail!" when my son is only eight years old. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn about the boy king, but especially if you're going to see the exhibit. It's a wonderful guide.
Good for the history book lover, written by the authority.
I saw the exhibit years ago in Victoria BC, so did not want to go again, but wanted to view the items. The photography in this volume is wonderful. Having read much about Howard Carter and the discoveries, the politics, etc., I am happy to have this attractive book (attractive even in paperback) to peruse. The culture that had so much gold and wealth and created such intricate artistry is hardly apparent today. And one must ruminate on the fact that being packed away with so much gold "stuff" still did not achieve eternity for young Tut - or...maybe it did, on a different level. The objects are beautiful and the text informative.
