Web designers. Stress. who needs 'em.

How often are you disgruntled with your web developers because you feel you're being unfairly charged for seemingly minimal updates?

From the developers point of view the work isn't made up, you've briefed them to make an amend. He or she has to physically access the site, make the change, fiddle with an image or two, check any links... and if they did that all day, for all their clients, for free, they'd soon be out of business.

Now, we have a couple of new websites. Oh yes. One is for our brand management and graphic design expertise and the other for our web design and web development (or digital media if you prefer) expertise.

Each has a simple CMS (Content Management System) built-in which affords me easy access to the areas of our site that need updating on a regular basis ie. text and image content, quickly, easily and at an affordable price, ie no price.

I have the technology, I don't rely on anyone else if I don't want to and I love it.

So this year, instead of continually forking out for seemingly minor updates - or worse still not updating your site at all for fear of being charged - ask your developers about the possiblity of a simple CMS system - retro-fit or otherwise.

Believe me until you have control of the simplest things firstly, you will probably never have a fruitful relationship with your web designers and secondly, you might never release the real potential of your website.

Finally I believe. Having used a well known (thanks to the BBC!) website creator for personal use the CMS message has finally penetrated the wall of resistance that I had hitherto surrounded myself with!

Where do I sign?
